Netherlands: Cardif conducted a survey to evaluate the current financial awareness of Dutch people
17/08/2010
To evaluate the level of financial knowledge of Dutch people, Cardif conducted a survey amongst 1.000 Dutch people.
The aims were to verify the eventual impact of the crisis on people's current financial awareness and to gather their expectations in terms of financial education. Part of this survey was a multiple choice quiz to test Dutch people understanding of financial words. This quiz was also realized in the streets of Rotterdam (www.youtube.com/cardifnederland).
The mains results are the following:
- people overestimate their current financial knowledge: only 13 per cent appear to actually have good financial knowledge. Male respondents scored slightly better than female quiz participants.
- Although current financial knowledge is limited, people are more motivated to extend their knowledge as a result of the crisis.
- When people need help, they would first turn to an independent person with specialist knowledge.
- When it comes to financial education, the Dutch consider the age of 10 as a good starting point.
