Education

After attending the Lycée Janson de Sailly in Paris, Eric Lombard graduated from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) business school in 1981.

He joined Banque Paribas that same year, holding a series of positions in International Trade and Financial Management until 1989.

1989-1993: public service

From 1989 to 1993, Eric Lombard worked for the government as technical advisor in the cabinet of Louis Le Pensec, French government spokesman from 1989 to 1991. He was advisor to Michel Sapin, who was junior minister of justice from 1991 to 1992 and minister of economy and finance from 1992 to 1993. 

1993 to 2004: from banking to insurance

Eric Lombard rejoined Paribas in April 1993 as head of Mergers & Acquisitions for the banking and insurance sectors. He was then named head of the Financial Institutions Group and a member of the department's Executive Committee from 1997 to 1999.

He was appointed head of the BNP Paribas Financial Institutions Group in September 1999, becoming a member of the Management Committee of the Corporate and Investment Banking business. In September 2002, he became head of Corporates and Financial Institutions.

In 2004, he became Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Assurance, the life and casualty insurance arm of BNP Paribas, and a member of the Management Committee of the BNP Paribas Investment Solutions (IS) core business.

Current responsibilities

Eric Lombard is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Cardif. He is a member of the executive office of the French Federation of Insurance Companies (FFSA). In 2004, his peers elected him President of the Groupement Français des Bancassureurs (G11), the French association of bancassurance companies.

Eric Lombard is also Chairman of F&B Holdings and Cardif Assicurazioni. He is a board member of BNP Paribas Investment Partners, BNP Paribas Real Estate, Natio Assurance, BNP Paribas Personal Investors, BNP Paribas Personal Finance and SBI Life Insurance.
